Can't see how anybody can say any of these players are dogshit after just that game.

None of them have played together in a settled team. A player can't be assesed as dogshit on one strange game - over 4 or 5 games perhaps.

Henry is a brick built shit house of a CB, and didn't look any different to Obonga

btw misssed the game but I saw some post that said Henry was dog shit. Is this true?

Like I said for a team with ambitions of being a top 10 team I'm concerned that our 2nd string can't beat a team like Astra. It doesn't bode well.

So some of you Prem fan boys are happy we threw the game last night. Which begs the question, what exactly are we playing for in your beloved Prem?
It can't be Europe because that interferes with your fucking precious league.

I'm not saying Bilic was right but some of the players mentioned wouldn't change the fact that the team would still have had Maiga, Nolan and a keeper that only started saving shots late on.

It's our club's weakness in the striking department, some of BFS's old signings still on our books and Sullivan's cheap punts on key players that has caused our downfall in the EL.

Let's hope we can get by with a weekly game in the PL...

Re: Astra FC v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT (2-1) 4-3 agg
I'm not happy about how last night transpired, but do understand it. It's not just the 2 games in 4 days in a regular basis... it's the lost training through travel:

Sunday (game)
Monday (day off)
Tuesday (Train)
Wednesday (Travel)
Thursday (Game)
Friday (Travel)
Saturday (Light Training)
Sunday (Game)
Repeat

Not exactly what a manager new to the league needs who is trying to change the whole ethos of the way the team plays in his first season.

As I say...I don't like it, but understand it.

Feel we should have taken Burke (if he's fit) and probably Samuelson or Amalfitano... But Burke would have made the biggest difference.

If it was a home game , no.
I think the problem for teams with the Thurs/Sun schedule is about the travel rather than the actual matches.
We COULD have taken 4 or 5 more players and gone through. It seems to me we deliberately decided to get knocked out. People can react to that how they will.
To me that wasn't about getting a result at Arsenal but more about playing on the Thursdays before Sunday games against Bournemouth and Liverpool as well.

Steve P:

Hendrie = injured
Jarvis = injured

Agree about the other two to a large extent.

I don't think we could have sent much more...Burke for me would have made the biggest difference, pushing Jenks wide and Knoyle out of the side.

Re: Astra FC v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT (2-1) 4-3 agg
I think the following could easily have played without there being much 'risk' for Sunday

Adrian
Hendrie
Amalfitano
Jarvis

Kouyate and Noble could have been on the bench, you can't tell me 15 minutes is going to affect them much.

We never even gave ourselves the chance to find out if we could balance the two campaigns.

That's what's disappointing.

At least we could have played our strongest side in the home ties and sent a more mixed squad to away games.

We DO have enough players to be competitive in both, despite what anyone says. From Cresswell, Hendrie, Collins, Reid, Ogbonna, Tomkins, Henry, Jenkinson and O'Brien, we have enough defenders of a good standard to make sure we're tight at the back away from home so not conceding many, without impacting team choices for the league.

There are enough bodies in the rest of the squad to mix and rotate, while giving a few youngsters the chance.

We never even gave ourselves the chance, from the outset.

"Those who are saying it's all about the Premier League I just can't agree with at all. What's the point? Just treading water season after season? Same old, same old. Not for me. Very disappointing."

Good post mate but the reality is that more than 70% of our club's income is from being in the PL. If you include shirt sales and sponsorship it is probably 80%. Gate receipts are the other 20% which shows how important competing in the PL is.

Lots of enthusiasm from the die-hard fans but the reason we fill gates is because tickets are £5 or £10. 35,000 turn and pay top money for the PL...

I don't quite understand what went on with this Europa league business.

As far as I can recall, Harry Kane was banging them in on Thursdays and Sundays for the yids last season, and I daresay most of their first choice players were playing both matches?

We never attempted to field our best eleven. Even with the result in the balance last night, apparently a game three days after in the Premier League outweighs the Europa League. So even if we had won last night, I guess Bilic would never have picked his Premier League starting eleven?

Contrast that with Southampton so far, and The Yids last season. We can't play two competitive matches in three days, but they can?

If we can't, why did we enter it?

Re: Astra FC v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT (2-1) 4-3 agg
This game was a weird one. We're unlikely to beat Arsenal, so what difference would it have made to play our best team against Astra? It's not like we threw a cup competition because we're struggling and need to concentrate on the league. The season hasn't even started yet. I don't think we're much chance of relegation anyway.

If you're a manager then you've got to take the fans with you to a certain extent. Get them believing in you. Sam never really leaned that. If we'd won at Astra and lost at Arsenal, people would still be pretty happy with the beginning of the season. Losing at both won't be the best way to start your West Ham career. Oh well. It was only the Europa League.

Moving to a massive new stadium, but people are worried about relegation?

Always thought clubs moved to a new stadium when they'd outgrown their previous one and were ready to move on.

I'd like to know what some of the guys who gave up a good amount of money and days of holiday from work think about it. If they'd been to all three matches, they'll have seen under strength teams struggle to a tally of 2 goals in 3 away matches, 2 of which ended in defeat to teams that a strong West Ham side would have defeated with ease.

Re: Astra FC v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT (2-1) 4-3 agg
That's not the point though scott is it? Chelsea didn't deliberately play a weakened team did they? Bradford just picked up a freak result, a 500-1 bet. The difference last night was that Bilic had decided to lose the game before we kicked off, bringing back horrific memories of that fat cunt Allardyce. That's what's so hard to take.
